Kanin Club

The Philippines is cradling the Asian fusion bandwagon a little too long. In my opinion, going back to grassroots and building on on our Filipino dishes is what is more challenging and exciting. For the past few months, I've been scouring the Metro and provincial Luzon on Interesting dishes. Most of the joints and dishes I've tried served Asian fusion and a few - Creative Filipino Dishes.

When I say creative Filipino dishes, I mean Kanin Club.
A Filipino friend of mine, who is now based in Singapore, asked for my suggestions for dishes to be served in her restaurant in Singapore. Her small restaurant will be serving Filipino, American, and Fil-Am fusion food. Soon as she finished asking, I asked her, "have you tried sinigang (tamarind soup) rice?" and literally her mouth opened. She found it a great idea. Yes, understandably, she's been out of the country pretty long not to have heard about this dish.

Reminiscing on the time when I was  a salesman and frequent Sta. Rosa Laguna, I remember eating Crispy Dinuguan, with its oh-so-yummy sauce and crispy "chicharon" (deep fried pork skin with little meat) bits, with sinigang rice (tamarind soup flavored rice) and ampalaya (bitter gourd) salad. We usually eat these dishes on payday. Not that the dishes are expensive, but there are a lot of cheap food around Sta. Rosa Laguna, however, they don't taste as good Kanin Club.

Kanin Club is located in Paseo De Sta. Rosa.
